Award of Excellence in Civil Liberties & Human Rights

Ottawa Tamil Association recognizes individuals from the community for their work in the area of civil liberties and human rights. Following is the details of the award.

Ottawa Tamil Association Award of EXCELLENCE IN CIVIL LIBERTIES & HUMAN RIGHTS

Award: This award is established to recognize, honor, and celebrate the outstanding work of senior community members who worked for Civil Liberties, justice for genocide, and Human Rights.

Eligibility: Canadian age 65+ years with about 10+ years of continuous activities
Criteria: Until Tamil Genocide is recognized worldwide, this priority will be given to those who worked in advocacy to get the genocide recognition. Since Tamils struggled for freedom in their homeland Tamil Eelam for over 70 years, the genocide recognition can be a form of justice for their generations.

Purpose of the award: Since only a few people come forward to do important voluntary work to promote justice, civil liberties, and human rights, this award is an attempt to recognize those who worked long in this area. This will encourage others from the community to come forward in the future.
