February 12 – Meeting with Hon. Dennis Halliday
As former UN Assistance Secretary General and co-chair of Permanent People’s Tribunal (PPT) at Breman City of Germany, he provided details of the PPT and its conclusion that declared that Sri Lanka perpetrated Genocide of Tamils.
October 07 – Information session about United Nations investigation on Sri Lanka
Tamil Diaspora has been calling for International independent investigation on Sri Lanka to investigate the war crimes and crimes against humanity since 2009. There were several efforts and support for this call by Ottawa Tamils and Tamil Canadians in general in the past 5 years. Currently UN human right council called for investigation ( http://www.ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/HRC/Pages/OISL.aspx), however it is limited in scope and there are several obstacles. This information session is to get a summary of activities in the past and discuss about some potential future plans.
Amnesty International representative will attend and talk about the importance of the UN investigation, and the outcome which Amnesty is hoping for. There will be a short presentation about Tamil’s efforts in the past and future plans. Please attend this information session and get informed about the current status. Admission is free.
