Ottawa Tamil Association (OTA) will be hosting a formal dinner “Tamil Heritage Month Gala of Canadian Tamils 2017 in Ottawa”.
The dinner will focus on sharing the Tamil Canadian community achievements, an appreciation for Tamil Heritage Month, reunion and Human Rights.

Presentation of Monitoring Accountability Panel

Following the Report of the OHCHR investigation on Sri Lanka
and UN Human Right council resolution, the MAP is nominated by TGTE
(Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam). The MAP will provide
independent monitoring, advice and recommendations, focusing on the
effectiveness of accountability measures from a victim’s
perspective.
TGTE team will be in Ottawa to present the details of this project.
Presentation will cover the structure of the MAP team, their
mandate and the possible outcomes that can benefit the victims and

9 – Heart & Stroke Foundation Big Bike by Ottawa Tamil Association

Preston Street – Close to Dow’s Lake
Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death for
Canadian men and women. So Ottawa Tamil Association (OTA) team is
going to be riding the Heart&Stroke Big Bike to help create more
survivors!
Research has shown that people of South Asian decent
including Tamil Canadian community are at greater risk of
developing heart disease and stroke – and at much earlier age –
compared with other ethnic groups.
In addition to supporting Heart and Stroke foundation to
develop lifesaving treatments, participating and contributing to
Bike Big also raise awareness and choice of healthy lifestyle among
Canadian Tamil community as well.
All of the money raised through Big Bike will go to the Heart
and Stroke Foundation, where they’ll use it to develop life-saving
treatments that bring hope to heart disease and stroke patients.

pleased to invite Ottawa young entrepreneurs for a business start up
workshop.
This workshop is designed for high School
graduates, post secondary students or fresh graduates who is looking
to start their own business at some-point in future. The morning and
afternoon sessions is an interactive session focused on how one can
turn their ideas into a viable business.
The workshop will
also focus on the startup ecosystem that entrepreneurs can utilize to
grow and expand their businesses.

Details:
Tamil Diaspora has been calling for International independent
investigation on Sri Lanka’s war crimes and crimes against
humanity since 2009. There were several efforts and support for
this call by Ottawa Tamils and Tamil Canadians in general in the
past 5 years. While United Nations Human Rights Council
investigation on Sri Lanka’s report is expected in March this
year, it is important to call for justice and tangible actions.
Mr. Callum Macrae is looking for support from Human Rights
supporters around the world for his second updated release of No
Fire Zone project. His previous project in 2013 helped to get
world attention and played a critical role in pushing the UN to
launch investigation on Sri Lanka’s crimes against humanity.
This meeting is to discuss about the importance of Mr.
Callum Macrae’s new project which require our support and also to
introduce Hiding the Elephant book.

interviews and help organizing and taking part in several
conferences in order to highlight Genocide of Eelam Tamils by Sri
Lanka. He has been and continue to be an advocate for
accountability and justice for victims of war crimes and crimes
against humanity.
Patrick, as a lawyer, councilor,
member of parliament for two terms, community and human rights

energetic, frank and honest leader and running for OntarioPC

Ms. Anita is committed to finding ways of making political
processes more inclusive, more representative, and more accessible
for everyone. If elected, her goal is to act as a true
spokesperson for local concerns, ensuring that all constituents in
Ottawa West-Nepean are heard.
Born and raised in Alberta, Anita obtained her undergraduate
degree at the University of Calgary before moving on to complete a
Master’s degree and all PhD course requirements in Canadian
Politics and Constitutional History at York University. She lives
in Ottawa West-Nepean with her husband Don Dransfield and
step-daughter Courtney.

16 – Meeting with Kanata-Carleton Conservative candidate Walter
Pamic
Walter is a positive, energetic and compassionate member of his
community with real-life business and community experience that
has prepared him to be a strong and vocal advocate for local
residents on Parliament Hill. His leadership qualities, education,
experience and business acumen make him a solid choice for Member
of Parliament for Kanata-Carleton.
Walter attended
Tamil Community meeting in the past and he is very vocal about the
importance of justice for the Tamil people in Sri Lanka.
In recent public consultation, the Conservative Foreign Minister
affirmed unequivocally that Canada would not deviate from the
long-standing principled stance on Human Rights. Canada is
strongly advocating for independent international investigation as
starting point for accountability and reconciliation, regardless
of whoever is in power in Sri Lanka. The Minister further went on
to state that the Canadian Government expects to see tangible
results beyond rhetoric from the Sri Lankan Government.

in Jaffna district in 2015.

As former UN Assistance Secretary General and co-chair of
Permanent People’s Tribunal (PPT) at Breman City of Germany, he
provided details of the PPT and its conclusion that declared that
Sri Lanka perpetrated Genocide of Tamils.

07 – Information session about United Nations investigation on
Sri Lanka
Tamil Diaspora has been calling for International independent
investigation on Sri Lanka to investigate the war crimes and
crimes against humanity since 2009. There were several efforts and
support for this call by Ottawa Tamils and Tamil Canadians in
general in the past 5 years. Currently UN human right council
called for investigation ( http://www.ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/HRC/Pages/OISL.aspx),
however it is limited in scope and there are several obstacles.
This information session is to get a summary of activities in the
past and discuss about some potential future plans.
Amnesty International representative will attend and talk
about the importance of the UN investigation, and the outcome
which Amnesty is hoping for. There will be a short presentation
about Tamil’s efforts in the past and future plans. Please attend
this information session and get informed about the current
status. Admission is free.
