The Ottawa Tamil Association was honoured to support and coordinate the presentation of the King Charles III Coronation Medal to Dr. Nathan Yoganathan, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public service, innovation, and community leadership. Established to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III on May 6, 2023, this prestigious medal recognizes individuals who have made a meaningful and lasting impact on Canada and its communities.
The nomination for Dr. Yoganathan was put forward by Vijay Thanigasalam, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and MPP for Scarborough–Rouge Park. Although MPP Thanigasalam was unable to attend in person, he shared a prerecorded message acknowledging the significance of the award and his continued advocacy, including his instrumental role in the passage of the Tamil Genocide Education Week Act in Ontario. Dr. Yoganathan is a distinguished biotech executive, former University of Toronto faculty member, former research scientist, and accomplished entrepreneur. He has successfully founded and led several private biotechnology companies, as well as one publicly listed biotech company, and continues to mentor and advise multiple non-profit and STEM-focused organizations across Canada. The medal was formally presented by Dr. Balasubramaniam Shanchayan, Member of the Ottawa Tamil Association Board of Directors. We congratulate Dr. Nathan Yoganathan on this well-deserved national honour and thank all those who made this recognition possible.
