Held in the heart of Ottawa, the Canada Army Run – an annual event supporting the Canadian Armed Forces and featuring iconic “dog tag” finisher medals presented by soldiers – provided a fitting backdrop for the OTA Running Club’s efforts. Participants, donning custom club attire, ran alongside thousands of civilians and military personnel, passing landmarks like Parliament Hill under clear skies. The event’s in-person races took place on September 21, 2025, aligning perfectly with OTA’s focus on resilience and unity.
Founded as part of OTA’s holistic well-being initiatives since the organization’s establishment in 2014 as a not-for-profit entity, the OTA Running Club fosters camaraderie among Tamil Canadians through regular group runs, training sessions, and motivational events. Open to all skill levels, the club blends athletic pursuits with cultural connections, encouraging members to “Run Stronger, Thrive Longer” amid Ottawa’s scenic landscapes. Today’s participation highlights the club’s role in promoting endurance, stress relief, and social bonds, aligning with OTA’s broader mission to empower the Tamil community through inclusive activities.
“The Canada Army Run was an exhilarating experience that brought our community together in a powerful way,” said Shan, a club member who received his finisher medal from a Canadian soldier at the event. “Finishing the 5K not only boosted our physical health but also symbolized our collective journey toward greater achievements, much like OTA’s 5-year plan to advance Tamil nationhood discussions on the global stage.”
The symbolic tie to OTA’s 5-year plan – spanning from 2025 to 2030 – emphasizes the organization’s dedication to hosting the 3rd International Conference on Tamil Nationhood and Genocide, building on the success of previous conferences held in 2018.
