In September 2025, the Ottawa Tamil Association (OTA), Ottawa Tamil Cultural Society (OTACT), and OTACT Taekwondo jointly aim to collect over 1,000 lbs of non-perishable food items to donate to the Ottawa Food Bank as part of the Thiyagi Thileepan Memorial Food Drive. The Ottawa Tamil Association (OTA) expresses gratitude to all contributors for their support and is proud to continue this effort in its 6th year with your ongoing support.
In Tamil Eelam, on September 15, 1987, Thiyagi Thileepan began a hunger strike that lasted 12 days to demand the implementation of the Indo-Sri Lanka Accord. His five key demands included the establishment of an interim council, the release of political prisoners, an end to colonization, and the withdrawal of the Sri Lankan army and police from schools and villages. Tamils hoped India would heed these demands, but tragically, Thileepan passed away on September 26, 1987.
ஒட்டாவாவில் தியாகி திலீபன் நினைவாக, பழுதடைய முடியாத 1000 இறாத்தல் உணவு பொருட்களை திரட்டி ஒட்டாவா உணவு வங்கிக்கு வழங்கவுள்ளனர். தியாகி திலீபன் நினைவு உணவு நன்கொடை ஆறாவது வருடமாக தொடர்ந்து வருகிறது. தியாகி திலீபன் உண்ணா நோன்பிருந்த புரட்டாதி மாதத்தில் அவரின் தியாகத்தை நினைவு கூரும் முகமாக இச்செயற்பாபாடு முன்னெடுக்கபடுகிறது.
