The Ottawa Tamil Association (OTA) is a Non-Profit organization (reg. #936728-4), founded to
serve the Tamil Canadian community in Ottawa and promote Tamil culture, heritage, language
and philosophy. The OTA is active in raising awareness about human rights and justice for
Tamils in Sri Lanka through documentary projects and coordinating efforts with other human
rights groups, politicians and Tamil organizations.
The OTA is looking to fill two summer student positions. All summer student positions are
funded to promote employment opportunities for students. The position and duration of it are
based on funding approval.
To be eligible for summer employment with OTA, job applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment
• Registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year
• Intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year
• Is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only), vocational or technical
program
• Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and
regulations
• Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been
conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

Ottawa Tamil Association
Web developer (8 weeks)
Duties
• Design and develop web pages for Ottawa Tamil Association
• Test and make modifications to promote an user-friendly and robust web pages
• Assess the website for bugs and errors
• Create and brainstorm ideas for site layout and appearance
• Other web development duties as assigned
Experience
• Current enrollment in Computer related courses is an asset
• Experience with or knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, CMS, WordPress
• Experience with or knowledge of implementation of social API’s like Facebook, Twitter
• Knowledge of W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 an asset
• Knowledge of video editing is an asset
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Demonstrated analytical, organizational and time management skills
• Excellent presentation, writing and communication skills
• Good judgment and problem solving skills
• Knowledge of Tamil and French, an asset
Administrator (8 weeks)
Duties
• Documentation of Human rights incidents in Sri Lanka
• Develop relationships with other Human rights and justice organizations
• Respond to email inquiries and assist with preparation of memos and media articles
• Support coordination of entrepreneurship and skills development initiatives as required
• Assist OTA secretary and treasurer to create and update meeting minutes and spreadsheets
• Assist in organizing and coordinating community events as required
Experience
• Experience or interest in human rights studies or social development
• Experience in research and drafting documents
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Demonstrated analytical, organizational and time management skills
• Excellent presentation, writing and communication skills
