சிறிலங்காவினால் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும் தமிழின அழிப்பு உலகறிந்தது. ஆனால் அதற்கான நீதி பல வருடங்களாக கிடைக்காமலேயே உள்ளது. கனடாவில் 2022ம் வருடம் தமிழின அழிப்பு நினைவு நாள், சிறிலங்காவில் தமிழருக்கு நடந்தது தமிழின அழிப்பு என பாராளுமன்றத்தில் அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்டது. மேலும் ஒன்டாரியோவில் தமிழின அழிப்பு கல்வி வாரம் சட்டமாகவும் அதை எதிர்த்து 2022 இல் போடப்பட்ட வழக்கொன்றில் ஒண்டாரியோ நீதிமன்றம் தமிழின அழிப்பு கல்வி வாரம் சரியானது என தீர்ப்பு வழங்கியுள்ளது. 2023 இல் கனடிய பிரதமர் செயலகமும் எதிர்கட்சி தலைவர் செயலகமும் ஒருங்கே தமிழின அழிப்பு நினைவு நாளை பிரகடனப்படுத்தி இருந்தனர். சிறிலங்கா அரசினால் சாவடைந்த தமிழர்களையும், தமிழீழ நாட்டை அமைத்து அதை சிறிலங்காவின் ஆக்கிரமிப்பில் இருந்து காத்து நின்ற மறவர்களையும் நினைவு கூறும் அதே நேரம் தமிழின அழிப்புக்கு நீதி வேண்டிய செயல்பாடுகளுக்கு உறுதி கொள்ளும் ஒரு நாளாகவும் இந்த தமிழின அழிப்பு நினைவு நாள் அமைகிறது.
In 2010, the Ottawa Tamil community held the Tamil Genocide
In 2021, The Tamil Genocide Education Week Act’ passed by the government of Ontario, proclaims the seven-day period in each year ending on May 18 as Tamil Genocide Education Week. This acknowledgement not only seeks to honour the lives that were lost with the Tamil Genocide but also gives a sense of hope to those who have suffered life-long intergenerational trauma and represents the first step to healing. By recognizing the Tamil Genocide, we affirm our collective desire to maintain awareness of this genocide and other genocides to prevent such crimes from happening again.
